My name is Mirte, and I’ve been working at Hotel Facility Concepts for the past three months as an allround finance administrator. I’m originally from the Netherlands, but I’ve had the chance to live abroad in Sweden, China, and the United States. These international experiences have shaped me both personally and professionally, giving me a broad perspective and helping me adapt easily to different working environments.
I studied International Tourism, which sparked my interest in global industries and how things operate behind the scenes. Over time, through various roles, I found myself more and more drawn to finance. Even though it wasn’t where I started, I’ve come to really enjoy the structure, logic, and impact of financial work. Right now, I’m focused on developing my skills, building a strong foundation in finance, and contributing wherever I can.
What is your role within the finance team, and what are your main responsibilities?
In my role, I’m responsible for processing incoming invoices, sending out sales orders and bills, and making sure we are paying our vendors on time. I also work closely with my finance colleagues to ensure our monthly numbers are accurate. On top of that, I help with account reconciliations and support the month-end closing process. In short, I contribute to both the daily operational flow and the broader financial accuracy of our department.
What experience or knowledge do you bring to this role?
While my background is in international tourism, my work experience has led me toward finance, and I’ve really come to enjoy it. Living and working in different countries has taught me to adapt quickly, communicate well, and approach situations with an open mind. I bring that same mindset to this role, along with a growing understanding of finance, attention to detail, and a hands-on, proactive attitude when it comes to learning and problem-solving.
What contribution do you hope to make to the organization in the coming year?
Over the next year, I hope to support the finance team by helping ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. I'm also looking forward to getting involved in new projects, learning more about other parts of the business, and continuing to grow into a dependable and active part of the team. Even though I’m still learning, I aim to bring consistency, attention to detail, and a positive approach to both everyday tasks and longer-term goals.
What do you find to be the most challenging or interesting aspect of your role?
What I find most interesting is how even the smallest financial tasks connect to the bigger picture of the company’s performance. For example, it's fascinating to see how processing a single invoice or correcting an entry can directly influence the profit and loss statement. It makes the work feel meaningful. On the other hand, the most challenging part is staying on top of all the details, especially during busy periods like month-end, but I see that as great learning opportunities.
Which financial processes or topics are of particular interest to you?
I’m especially interested in budgeting, forecasting, and data analysis. I like digging into numbers and understanding what they say about how the business is doing. I’d also like to sharpen my skills in tools like Excel and financial software to improve my ability to analyze and interpret data.
Where do you see yourself in five years within the field of finance?
In five years, I see myself moving more toward business analytics or controlling, somewhere I can combine my financial knowledge with data analysis to support decision-making. I enjoy working with data, identifying patterns, and translating numbers into meaningful insights that can help with business improvements. Ideally, I’d like to be in a role that connects finance and strategy, contributing to long-term planning, budgeting, and performance analysis. I’d like to be in a position where I can contribute to strategic decision-making and continue growing professionally.
